The goal of the PaleoLab is to bring children closer to paleontology, stimulating their curiosity with an active and dynamic approach.
Children and youngsters delve into the geological history of Sardinia, in particular that which affects the Miocene (23-5 million years) and the Genoni area (Duidduru Geopaleosito). They will learn the fossil cleaning technique, thus becoming aware of the importance of the work of the paleontologist and fossils.
Through games, hammers, glues, chisels and a real micro chisel, complex and apparently boring topics are transformed into an important and fun training course.
All didactic activities of the workshop foresee a theoretical moment and a related practical activity. Among the most successful activities with schools is the reconstruction of the geological time scale. A fun educational system that helps children learn the length of the geological eras. Furthermore, it helps students to insert the different forms of life and geological events in the correct temporal context.
The fossiliferous quarry of Duidduru is located just outside the village of Genoni. After a short walk of 500 m, a spectacular scenario opens up on a fossilized seabed of 20 million years. An imposing exposed stratigraphy and a tectonic fault complete the view on the site.
If you are happy to take a walk, a visit to the geosite completes the training activity and contextualises the fossils studied in the museum.
For the afternoon, immediately after a packed lunch or in a farmhouse, we suggest a guided tour in the Giara Park looking for Giara horses and to discover the biodiversity of the Giara Park.
Usually, during school trips an entire museum is dedicated to the activities of a single school. Since there are not many dates available, we recommend booking the day well in advance for your school.
Reservations are recorded both by e-mail and by telephone. In addition, you can always receive the catalog for schools updated with all the proposals, costs and scheduled activities by sending the request via e-mail.
